Course Information
The Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) Master Trainer Course is designed to improve the results of pregnancy and delivery by equipping healthcare professionals and learners the most essential, evidence-based skills in pre-natal and obstetric care. HMS skills are especially applicable for low-resource and cross-cultural healthcare settings. HMS is an educational experience created by Jhpiego.
At the completion of the Professional Qualification Course in Helping Mothers Survive (HMS), learners will be able to demonstrate:
- Proficiency in essential care for labor and birth
- Management of bleeding after birth
- Management of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia
- Management of threatened preterm birth
- Management of prolonged labor
The Professional Qualification Course in Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) has two components: online and in-classroom. The online component provides critical information about maternal health, OB complications, newborn care, and management of common newborn diseases.

- A personal computer with an up-to-date operating system and ample memory for downloads
- A web browser, preferably the most up-to-date version of Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari
- Applications capable of opening Microsoft Word documents and of viewing PDFs
- An Internet connection, preferably high speed

This course will equip learners with the most essential, evidence-based skills in obstetrics and newborn care.

Evaluation Methods & Requirements For Successful Completion
This course is graded pass/fail. Successful pass requires:
- Mother Newborn Health Post-Test ≥80%
- Satisfactory or higher demonstration of all required skills
- Complete course evaluation at the course conclusion.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) for the INMED Professional Qualification Course in Helping Mothers Survive is attained through satisfactory completion of the course requirements. Note: CME is not applicable to students or resident physicians.
Cost
There is no additional charge for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

Participants who successfully complete the course of study and who pass the final examinations will receive the INMED Professional Qualification in Helping Mothers Survive. Academic credit earned is 1 credit hour. Verification of the educational experience will be provided to any learner’s affiliated school or residency program. Those who do not pass the final examinations will receive a certificate of attendance.
Tuition for the INMED Professional Qualification Course in Helping Mothers Survive is $295 per participant.
Participants will receive access to the INMED Maternal-Newborn Health Short Self-Paced Course, one day of supervised hands-on skill development, and upon satisfactory participation and skill demonstration, the INMED Professional Qualification in Helping Mothers Survive. Please note that accommodations and meals are not included.
