International Service-Learning Via Equivalency
INMED endeavors to recognize excellent international medicine, nursing, and public health service-learning experiences provided by other institutions towards qualification for and INMED Professional Diploma or Master’s Degree in International Health (MIH).
Requirements
In application for equivalency, the student must provide documentation that the experience will:
- Provide healthcare to a low-resource community
- Be continuously supervised by a mentor whose qualifications are described below
- Be at least four weeks in continuous duration (INMED offers an exception to the four-week requirement. If accepted into the International Service-Learning Reduced Duration Pathway, the requirement is reduced to at least two weeks on location followed by composing a quality improvement project)
Supervisor Qualifications
Potential supervisors of INMED Service-Learning students must:
- Complete the Supervisor Agreement to Oversee INMED Learners Form
- Submit to INMED a professional resume or curriculum vitae for consideration
- Be fully licensed to practice their profession in their nation
- Possess as least five years of professional experience
- Guarantee continuous supervision of the INMED learner
- Promptly submit an evaluation of the INMED learner at completion of the experience
- Higher consideration will be given to potential INMED Supervisors with research, publication and academic teaching experience

Application Fee
$100 – Application Fee for Professional Diploma in International Medicine & Public Health or
$100 – Application fee for Professional Diploma in International Nursing & Public Health or
$100 – Application Fee for Professional Diploma in International Public Health
(Note: no service-learning application fee for MIH participants)
Professional Certificate Course Tuition
$1360 for the Professional Certificate Course in International Medicine & Public Health or
$1360 for the Professional Certificate Course in International Nursing & Public Health or
$1360 for the Professional Certificate Course in International Public Health or
(Note: Tuition for Master’s degree credit is $2720)
Service-Learning Approval Fee
$600 for International Medicine & Public Health Service-Learning approval or
$600 for International Nursing & Public Health Service-Learning approval or
$600 for International Public Health Service-Learning approval or
(Note: Tuition for Master’s degree credit is $1360)
Process
1) Submit international training site location & description (or reference to a website that fully describes the facility) and service-learning dates for approval by INMED.
- Provide supervisor contact information
- Dates must be 4 weeks minimum (2 weeks is acceptable for practicing professionals)
2) Complete the appropriate Professional Certificate Course:
- Professional Certificate Course in International Medicine & Public Health or
- Professional Certificate Course in International Nursing & Public Health or
- Professional Certificate Course in International Public Health
3) Submit the Diploma Application online or Master’s Degree Service-Learning Application online.
4) Pay Service-Learning Approval Fee/Tuition
- Send INMED your International Flight Itinerary, and we can provide travel/ liability insurance (for medical personnel) for up to 35 days, and registration with the U.S. State Department.
5) Upon return, submit the following documentation to INMED (we will provide the templates for these documents):
- INMED Essay
- Supervisor Evaluation
- INMED Evaluation
- Presentation Outline
6) Once these documents are evaluated to satisfaction, you will receive the diploma by mail and will be eligible to use the credentials corresponding to your diploma:
- DIMPH (Professional Diploma in International Medicine & Public Health) or
- DINPH (Professional Diploma in International Nursing & Public Health) or
- DIPH (Professional Diploma in International Public Health) or
- For MIH learners, once approved, the Service Learning Experience will count toward your progress in the MIH
