Since World War II and the establishment of the United Nations, the world has experienced an explosion in international trade, immigration and communication. The ability to engage people of different cultures is an increasingly critical skill set in the venues of health, education, profession, community, and personal relationship.

At the completion of this course, participants will in the context of a low-resource community be able to:
  • Identify the influence and character of cultures
  • Employ a process of observing, understanding and adjusting to cultural differences
  • Design culturally appropriate healthcare interventions
  • Successfully manage the personal experiences of culture shock, adaptation and reentry
