INMED Diploma Timetable & Preparation Check List

6-12 Months Prior To Departure

  • Complete the INMED International Public Health Diploma Application, pay application fee, submit professional picture, and submit a letter of recommendation. Application must be received at least three months prior to departure.
  • Contact your school or residency to assure academic credit, if applicable.
  • Finalize your elective dates, in collaboration with your school and INMED.
  • Pay INMED enrollment fee within 30 days of acceptance.
  • Return your signed Student Responsibility Agreement to INMED by postal mail.
  • Apply for your personal passport. If you already have a passport, check to make sure it is valid for at least six (6) months (Before Expiration) at the time of your international rotation. Also, check that you have at least two completely empty pages. This is to assure that you have adequate space to receive visas.
  • Make a copy of the data page on your personal passport and send a copy of it to INMED.
  • Raise money to cover your travel expenses and possible donations to your host international training site.
  • Make arrangements to complete the INMED International Public Health Intensive Hybrid Course. This is ideally completed prior to departure for service learning, but in exceptional circumstances can be completed after return.
  • Plan attendance at the next INMED Exploring Medical Missions Conference
  • Regularly check the U.S. State Department website for the most up-to-date information regarding travel advisories: http://www.state.gov/travel.
4 Months Prior To Departure
  • Contact your international training site regarding travel plans, housing on site, entry visa, personal health needs, and items to pack.
  • Contact travel agent and book flights to your international training site. Forward travel itinerary to INMED.
  • Review visa application information and apply accordingly.
  • Review travel health information concerning your international training site at http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx
  • Meet with your personal physician regarding vaccinations, prophylactic medication (including against HIV exposure), and any other health needs.
  • Complete the INMED International Public Health Intensive Hybrid Course.
  • Review travel tips at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/.
  • Review specific information about the country you are traveling to at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1765.html
1 Month Prior To Departure
  • Review your travel plans with your international training site.
  • Review your need for vaccinations and prophylactic medication, including against HIV exposure.
  • Assure you have your passport, and if required, an entry visa into the country of your international training site.
  • Contact your international training site to confirm arrival time.
Just Prior to Departure
  • Pack a camera to take photos of your experience to share with INMED.
  • Give your international contact information to family and friends.
  • Bring enough money with you to pay for living expenses, to purchase gifts, and for any unforeseen expenses.
  • Pack your Student Evaluation Forms (applicable only to students) and any required school documents to be filled out by supervisor at the international training site.
  • Pack your Travel Insurance Card and Forms
  • Regularly check the U.S. State Department website for the most up-to-date information regarding travel advisories: http://www.state.gov/travel
  • Post an entry to your INMED blog.
Returning Home
  • Bring Student Evaluation Forms back with you.
  • Complete the INMED International Public Health Essay questions.
  • Fill out and submit the INMED evaluation.
  • Submit a presentation outline from your International Public Health Presentation
  • Attend the next INMED Exploring Medical Missions Conference
  • Please send photos of your experience to INMED to share with other potential students
