Pharmacy professionals are increasingly applying their unique expertise on behalf of the world's most vulnerable people. Their roles often include important aspects of patient-management decisions, medication stewardship and safety, patient and staff education, and managerial leadership. The INMED International Pharmacy Certificate is designed to equip pharmacy professionals with the clinical skills and experience for effectiveness in this field.
Enrollment is open to all pharmacy professionals and pharmacy students.
At the completion of the INMED International Pharmacy Certificate students in the context of a low-resource community will be able to:
International Pharmacy Certificate students will achieve the above learning objectives through the following four educational components: International Medicine Self-Paced Courses International Public Health Self-Paced Course Diseases Of Poverty Self-Paced Course Alternately, participants may also opt to take an INMED International Medicine Intensive Course. International Service Learning Students serve four to eight weeks at an INMED training site where they are supervised by INMED faculty for development of clinical skills and experience. Responsibilities may include inpatient care, outpatient clinic, night duty, and participation in research, public health, and primary care activities. This service learning opportunity is also available to practicing healthcare professionals, who must participate for a minimum of two continuous weeks. International Pharmacy Presentation Students will select a topic on health promotion or disease prevention relevant to their training site and make a 30-minute educational presentation to the staff at that training site. The student's supervisor will advise in selecting the topic and developing content of this presentation. International Pharmacy Essay The Essay is designed to help students clarify their personal position on the greatest issues surrounding international pharmacy. It requires thoughtful responses to several questions, is submitted via e-mail, and requires about two hours to complete.
Assessment of student's attainment of the learning objectives will be based upon: International Medicine Self-Paced Course Examinations The on-line examinations include a variety of interactive questions and responses. Training Site Faculty Evaluation Supervising faculty at the INMED International Pharmacy Training Site will submit a written evaluation of student's performance with attention to the above learning objectives. Essay Evaluation At the completion of their service learning experience, students will receive guidelines for authoring an essay regarding insights they have developed into international health issues.
Students who successfully complete the above course of study will receive the INMED International Pharmacy Certificate. Verification of the educational experience will be provided to the student's affiliated school or residency program. Graduates are entitled to include initials C.I.P. (Certificate in International Pharmacy) following their names.
