International Medicine Certificate Applicant Info

The INMED academic calendar runs from July of each year through June of the following year, similar to that of U.S. medical schools and residency programs. Elective can begin at any time and last from two to eight weeks. Applications are accepted continuously until all available openings are filled. Students will be notified immediately upon receiving their applications. Please view the TimeTable for Certificate preparation details. Application must be received at least three months prior to departure.

  FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY  

Students are ultimately responsible for all expenses associated with INMED International Medicine Certificate training. A non-refundable application fee of $100 is due at the time of application. The $900 enrollment fee, which includes a $150 deposit, is due within 30 days after the student's application is accepted and a training site is secured. Should the student need to cancel the elective, seventy-five percent of the enrollment fee is refundable up to 60 days prior to beginning the elective. Other expenses associated with Certificate training normally include airfare, passport, visa, vaccinations, and housing and meals at the international site. Total cost of the INMED International Medicine Certificate training is usually on the order of $3000-$4,000 per student.   FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE  

INMED will establish on behalf of any Certificate student a Scholarship Fund to assist with Certificate-related expenses. A tax-deductible receipt will be provided to anyone making a financial contribution toward a student's Scholarship Fund. There is a ten percent administration fee for all electronic gifts made to this fund and an eight percent administration fee for all other gifts made to this fund.   CERTIFICATION  

Students who successfully complete the above course of study will receive the INMED International Medicine Certificate. Verification of the educational experience will be provided to the student's affiliated school or residency program. Graduates are entitled to include initials C.I.M. (Certificate in International Medicine) following their names.

  OPTIONAL INTERNATIONAL HIV MEDICINE CERTIFICATION  

Students enrolled in the INMED International Medicine Certificate program may also have an opportunity to complete the INMED International HIV Medicine Certificate. Both Certificate programs can be conducted simultaneously when a student:

  APPLICATION

Upon receiving your completed application, INMED will request a letter of recommendation from a student's or resident's faculty who has supervised the student or resident on a clinical rotation. For graduates, INMED will request a letter of recommendation from a professional colleague. The letter of recommendation should include:

  • Description of relationship with the applicant
  • Reasons why the applicant should be considered for an international rotation
  • Any reservations about the applicant's ability to perform and adapt in the context of an international rotation
