Conference Schedule

At this year's conference, participants have the opportunity to select from two seminar sessions: one on Friday morning and the other on Friday afternoon, June 1. The exception is Helping Babies Breathe, which requires both the Friday morning and afternoon sessions.

  SEMINAR SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

Crisis Response Training: This session will equip participants with the basic elements of disaster response, including developing resilience, response preparedness, and crisis response activities. Participants will take advantage of group exercises and connections with disaster response organizations.

Faith & Humanitarian Service: Those of us involved in serving forgotten people often contemplate the connection between this and their personal faith. This session will explore the biblical foundations of humanitarian service and will encourage participants from both healthcare and non-healthcare fields to more effectively express their convictions through their lifestyle and careers.

Helping Babies Breathe: This all-day session will equip participants to resuscitate newborn babies in distress in low-resource settings. It will also prepare participants to intentionally teach these skills to others. For this reason, participants are required to purchase the HBB instructor's newborn simulator which contains the essential teaching tools. The cost of the HBB instructor's newborn simulator is $175, payable at the time of conference registration. This session is open to participants from any background, including program administrators, policy makers, and parents.

Medicine Skill Stations: Faculty physicians from the Research Medical Center Family Medicine Residency will lead hands-on sessions in normal obstetrics, complicated obstetrics, suturing, casting & splinting, and tropical medicine case studies. This session is best suited for people in the healthcare fields.

Organizational Leadership: This session is designed for those who provide, or may in the future provide, oversight of mission-driven, non-profit agencies. Subjects addressed will include identification of mission, assembly of partners, organizational structure, human resources, and thriving in the midst of economic turmoil.

Public Health & Community Development: Participants from any profession will discover how to perform a community health assessment, identify local needs and resources, design development interventions that are effective, measure outcomes, and enlist the cooperation of community development partners.
