Definitions

Students
    • Academic Year: Full year beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
    • Fiscal Year: Full year beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
    • Academic Term: an 8-week period during which courses are run. Five terms are offered each academic year.
    • Full-time student: a student enrolled in 8 credit hours per academic year.
    • Part-time student: a student enrolled in 7 or fewer credit hours per academic year.
    • Graduate Course: Courses numbered 500 and higher.
    • Master’s Student: Students admitted into a graduate-level program.
    • Institutional Research (IR): Institutional research provides INMED’s leadership information and analytical support for decision making regarding student, faculty, and staff data. INMED uses its IR data to inform strategic planning, policymaking, and to promote ongoing institutional self-assessment.
    • Student Progress: To ensure students are progressing toward the completion of their master’s degree, and that we are offering appropriate student support, INMED monitors student progress, retention, and graduation rates for all enrolled students. This involves monitoring to ensure that students are on track to complete their degree within the time constraints they agreed to on their enrollment agreement, that a good portion of students stay with the program once enrolled, and that students complete their degrees when they are eligible.
Faculty

Faculty and Instructor by Category

    • Full-Time faculty are personnel who teach three course offerings or more per academic year.
    • Part-Time faculty are personnel who teach two course offerings or fewer per academic year.
    • Visiting instructors are personnel who only teach a Professional Qualification Course.

Faculty and Instructor by Rank*

  • Professors are personnel who hold two or more advanced degrees, have published three of more peer-reviewed publications, have five or more years relevant teaching experience, and who serve as full-time or part-time faculty members. They are responsible for teaching, advising, attending faculty meetings, participating in the Faculty Council, and curriculum design.
  • Associate Professors are personnel who hold a minimum of one advanced degree, have published two or fewer peer-reviewed publications, have fewer than five years relevant teaching experience, and who serve as full-time or part-time members. They are responsible for teaching, advising, attending faculty meetings, participating in the Faculty Council, and curriculum design.
  • Instructors are personnel who are qualified in their area of expertise; they do not attend faculty meetings.

*Significant consideration is given for professional experience that relates to INMED’s mission. Additional consideration is given to relevant training and credentials appropriate to the course(s) being taught.

Rates
    • Acceptance Rate: The total number of students accepted divided by the total number of students that apply within a specified academic year.
    • Annual Retention Rate Calculation: total number of enrolled students (including any who have withdrawn or canceled), minus the number of students who have withdrawn or canceled their enrollment, divided by the total number of enrolled students. Note: student numbers are based on enrollment, withdrawal, or cancellation within a specified academic year. 
    • Graduation Rate: INMED students are allowed 4 years to complete the MIH program. Graduation rate is calculated for a specified academic year based on the number of students that graduate divided by the number of students that were enrolled in the academic year. Note: This calculation takes place at or before the conclusion of the 4-year allotted time for program completion.
FTE Ratio

Faculty:

    • INMED’s faculty is comprised of full time and part time individuals. Full time faculty are defined as teaching 20 or more credit hours per academic year.
    • To calculate the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Faculty, the institution divides the total number of credit hours taught in one academic year and divides it by 20 credit hours.
    • Equation: Total Credit Hours Taught in One Academic Year / 20 Credit Hours = FTE Faculty
    • Example: 95 credit hours /20 credit hours = 4.75 FTE Faculty

Staff:

      • INMED’s staff is comprised of full time and part time employees. Full time staff are defined as working a 40 hour average work-week annually.
      • To calculate the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Staff, the institution divides the total number of staff hours worked in an average week by 40 hours.
      • Equation: Total hours worked in an average work week by all staff/40 hours = Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Staff.
      • Example: 180 staff hours / 40 hours = 4.5 FTE Staff

Student:

    • Full-time equivalent (FTE):  A calculation that translates student credit hours into an equivalent number of full-time, full-year students.
    • The full-time equivalent for a master’s student is 32 credit hours (or 8 credit hours per academic year). FTE is derived by dividing student credit hours by the full-time, full-year equivalent for the master’s level. For example, FTE for master’s students can be calculated by dividing master’s student credit hours by 8.  Note: Frequently INMED learners complete more than 8 credit hours per academic year, enabling them to complete the degree in less than 4 years. For this reason, the number of FTEs may exceed the number of full-time students.
    • Full-time equivalent (FTE) Equation: Total number of credit hours taken by students within an academic year / 8 credit hours = Full-time equivalent (FTE).
